Passionate Advocate for Education Equity and Excellence

Rachel Stone brings a solid foundation to the Gwinnett County School Board as a certified Georgia educator, with experience teaching Pre K-12 Math, English, History, Law, and Special Education classes. Stone's law degree from Emory University, focusing on Child, Family, and Education Law, combined with Education Leadership & Policy training from the University of Georgia (UGA) and experience at the Georgia Department of Education, drives her passion for crafting policies uplifting children, families, teachers, and communities.

While a graduate student at UGA, she served as a full-time Gwinnett County Public School (GCPS) English teacher. Stone's research empowered diverse reading and math learners, boosting GCPS graduation rates. Stone brings over a decade dedicated to literacy and math programs; and state/local task forces.

Stone will not waver; she stands firm on her convictions: She is consistent. She is stable. She is solid as a rock!

Stone began her career as a math special education teacher, leading Foundations of Algebra courses aimed at bridging learning gaps. Her commitment to advocacy began at Emory University’s Barton Child Law and Policy Center protecting the legal rights of children in foster care, juvenile justice, and education systems. Transitioning to the Georgia Department of Education, Stone played a pivotal role in enhancing compliance for public schools and securing additional funding ($80 million) for public schools. As a Gwinnett County Public Schools teacher, she boosted literacy outcomes by 65% and co-created a Multicultural Literature & Composition course. She also helped design equitable Career Tech & Education district assessments.

Stone's journey—from high school math special education teacher, childrens' advocate under Governors Nathan Deal and Brian Kemp administrations, to a Gwinnett County Public School English and Career Tech & Education teacher— is marked by a relentless pursuit for high quality education for all students.
